Medical Retired / Medically Released / Transitioning From Service / Disabled  /

As you leave the military you may have many questions mostly what do I do and what's next?

Prior To Leaving Service:

Medical Review:  Make sure any and all illness and injuries are in your medical records.

If told it may take a few more weeks or months if you report them.. take the time to do it right..

What you need to secure:

These records are your only proof of your physical history while you were in the military and what you did 

Certified Copies of:

DD 214 [Corrected Version] 

All Military Medical Records -

                Educational File

                Administrative

What you need to do:

              Contact your local veterans employment representative

Assistance with a resume to labor market information

             Apply for unemployment

               if returning to work for the same company who you would left prior to entering the military

               you need to contact said employer:

               Contact your local VA representative to apply for

                        Service Connected Injuries  

                                            Apply for the G.I. Bill

                                             V. R. & E. [Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment]

** If you are attending college or are in a V.R. & E program - 6 months prior to graduation contact your

veterans employment representative and start preparation to selecting the companies where you want to work       

**The following suggestion is to take a copy of your DD 214 to your local Veteran Service Officer for storage

or visit local court house register a copy there and every time you relocate do the same.

Take only a copy of the portfolio to an interview: if requested you can leave it and arrange another day to return and pick it up
